Research Gap.
I think I want to focus on the actual content of the advertisements. I don't necessarily care about what is being advertise (I'm sure I will pick a particular brand to narrow down the research), but more about how consumers engage with the media. How do the brands have conversations with the consumers, how do the consumers react to the particular ad versus how influencers choose to advertise the product. Visually is it different? What does the caption say? It is more informational or more conversational? I think the overall message is that Instagram does well, but why does it do well? What components make it a successful post?

After having read your lit. review assignment, I like the idea of a study specifically on content analysis of ads, which utilizes the insights of readers and/or consumers (or if you have access to a couple sources who used Instagram, or other social media platforms, to market their products like books, etc., that would also be great). There seems to be a dearth of research on this topic and I think you have a good opening/edge to pursue this all the more.
